Old-Fashioned Ice Cream Parlor
Freeport Union Dairy
The Freeport Union Dairy is a popular old-fashioned ice cream parlor serving creamy, local ice cream that is guaranteed to please.
Union Dairy gets its name from the “union” two Freeport dairy companies formed when they merged in 1914. The Union Dairy building maintains many elements of its original, soda shop style, including art deco signs and a wrap-around ice cream bar with stools. You can still enjoy an old-fashioned ice cream soda at the counter like the customers of fifty years ago.
The creamery’s early employees created their own unique, delectable flavors – including Orange Pudding, Coconut Explosion, and Key Lime Pie – which are still popular today. Prepare to be pleasantly surprised with flavors like Black Cherry and Mackinac Island Fudge, which are mixed with uncommonly generous amounts of their namesake treats. The creamery offers 51 great flavors of ice cream in all.
Don’t miss this outstanding creamery! Visit 126 East Douglas Street on any day except Monday, when the shop is closed, to experience this local gem! You can order Freeport’s Cedar Crest Ice Cream any time.
