Clearwater County was established in 1902 as the 83rd of Minnesota’s 87 counties. It retained a translation of its Ojibwe name, “Gawakomitgweia,” which means “clear water.” Its county seat, Bagley, abounds with beautiful pine forests and shimmering lakes. Clearwater County is known nation-wide as the home of Itasca State Park and Lake Itasca, the source of the Mississippi River. The county is currently home to about 8,695 residents.
