Phillips County was named after rancher and state senator Benjamin D. Phillips. It was established in 1915, prior to the County’s establishment it was part of Blaine County Montana. In North Malta (Phillips County Seat) a 77-million-year-old Brachylophosaurus nicknamed Leonardo was unearthed in the year 2000. It is known to be one of the best preserved and one of only four that were mummified. Phillips County is now home to approximately 4,253 Residents.
